Chapter thirty-three

Miss Jones

I didn’t know what to make of what had happened after we shared breakfast. We had gone back to bed because he said he needed a nap. I didn’t have an issue with that because I was still tired as well. The problem was, I didn’t get much rest. Not after hearing him mumbling in his sleep and not after the way he fought his way out of whatever dream he’d been having. He hadn’t wanted to discuss it, and I didn’t want to push him, but I wondered what memories were haunting him.

As soon as they told Terria that we could visit, since the storm hadn’t done as much damage to the building as previously thought, I started packing my bags. The professor was upset at first. I’d all but promised him I’d stay another night, but I needed to see my girl. Badly. Still, when Dr. West urged me back onto his bed, I didn’t fight against his hands sliding my dress up, nor did I when he gently eased my panties to the side.

After donning a condom, he pulled me to the edge of the bed, further adjusted my panties to the side, then slid slow and easy into me with one long stroke. With each thrust of his powerful hips, I knew damn well I would be back in his bed by the end of the night.

“What room did they put her in?” I asked when I spotted my friends in the tattered lobby.

“They said they moved her to the tenth floor. Come on. We gotta take the stairs,” Terria said, handing Catissa and I visitors’ badges.

We slapped them on our chests as we headed for the nearest stairs where security guards were waiting. There were a few boarded windows and doors, but the damage wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be. With the way the weather had sounded like it was uprooting everything, I was shocked. However, I needed whoever was in charge of making sure the elevator was safe to make better progress. It took us far too long to take the stairs to the tenth floor.

When we did get there, we hauled ass getting to room 1011. After checking in at the nurses’ station, she told us we would have to wait until the attending nurse finished checking Chanel’s vitals, and even then, only one of us at a time could go in. I grabbed one of the chairs in the small waiting room, just to rest my throbbing ankle. Before now, the fact that I had injured it slipped my mind. That was partly because Dr. West had kept me off my feet.

There was a small window that overlooked the grounds. The aftermath of the storm showed felled trees, broken glass, and strewn debris, but for the most part, it didn’t look half as bad as the storm made it sound. My phone buzzed. My mom’s name popped up and I quickly answered.

“Mama, you okay? Y’all get that storm?”

“Hey, Baby Amazon.
